For those of you who want to update them now Ubuntu Hardy to Intrepid, here's how:
First, make sure your Ubuntu 8.04 LTS is up to date ( System > Administration> Update Manager). It is also possible to migrate directly from a version earlier than Hardy straight to Intrepid. You will have to go through before Hardy.
Next, run a terminal and enter the command as follows:
gksu 'update-manager -c -d'
That's it!
If you want more details about the migration, read this .

"And now it's done" ... after a certain time to download and install all the same!
Ok, so it must still nearly an hour (see the following connection speed and PC) to download and install everything, but the procedure is very simple.
FYI, do not update if you need a graphics card nvidia 96xx driver (GeForce 4) and that you need 3D. These drivers are not (yet) compatible with Xorg 7.4 used by Intrepid (and Fedora 9 as well)
I have no specific source at hand but I was quite done with fedora chi ** ^ ^
In fact it seems that the drivers for the cards <= geforce 4 are no longer supported Nvidia. This leaves open the drivers that do not, at present, to make 3D.
Otherwise, I updated my PC and ... it's not too much joy! I have lots of small problems related to migration, configuration problems, missing packets for my printer ... in short, I feel that I will start again on a clean install in order to take full advantage of Intrepid Ibex.

nVidia "legacy" video support
The 71 and 96 series of proprietary nVidia drivers, as provided by the nvidia-glx-legacy and nvidia-glx packages in Ubuntu 8.04, are not compatible with the X. Org included in Ubuntu 8.10. Users with the nVidia TNT, TNT2, TNT Ultra, GeForce, GeForce2, GeForce3, and GeForce4 chipsets are Will Be Affected and transitioned on upgrade to the free nv driver INSTEAD. This driver does not support 3D acceleration.
Other users of nVidia chipsets That Are Supported by the 173 or 177 driver series Will Be transitioned to the nvidia-glx-173 or nvidia-glx-177 package INSTEAD. However, unlikable drivers 96 and 71, drivers 173 and 177 are only compatible with CPUs That SSE support (eg Intel Pentium III, AMD Athlon XP or higher). Systems with older CPUs Will Also Be transitioned to the nv driver on upgrade.
