As you've probably read everywhere on the web, Windows Seven (7) has released version RC public. This means that you can also try this OS on your machine.
Two options are available to you:
- You have a little space on your hard drive (empty partition) and in this case you can try an installation of Windows 7, in parallel with your current system.
- Your disk is busy in its entirety (my case) and you do not want to risk your data compromètre due to a crash.
In the second case, as I recall it is only a trial version of Windows 7, which is perhaps not without bugs, use a virtualization program type VirtualBox seems indicated.
So I will detail the procedures below.
Permièrement, it should download Windows 7 RC by visiting this page . A small manager download sites will settle for you to download the ISO image.
Next, download VirtualBox and install it. Example, you can follow the following tutorial ensuring choose the following options:
- Windows 7
- 1GB memory about
- Dynamic virtual disk of 10 GB (depending on the space you have on your hard drive)
- Size of the video memory 64 MB +
- DVDROM DVD / CD player host if you burned the iso, otherwise ISO image file and select the Windows 7
Then run the virtual machine and install just begun. Then simply follow the instructions on the screen. After two restarts and once your license key entry (received by mail when downloading Windows) you can test Windows 7.

My first impressions are pretty good, despite the fact that the system is running in a virtual machine with only 1GB of RAM, and with a minimum graphics card, it is still quite fluid.
Level interface, it is very Vista-like ... we like it or not. Windows Media Center is included with, so we just easily test the multimedia content and it runs very well.

I am pleasantly surprised!
Ps: this article was written entirely in Windows 7 ;-)
[Edit]
For information, the key provided by Microsoft is valid until June 2010 ...
Otherwise, if you want to switch to full screen with VirtualBox (CTRL + F) you will notice if you have a wide screen that the image does not take the whole screen.
Two methods:
In the menu "Machine" from the window of your virtual machine, select "Automatic adjustment of the size of the screen called," and go to full screen mode (CTRL + F)
Or, if this does not work on the host where VirtualBox is installed, when the virtual machine is running (started Windows), run the command prompt, move to the directory where you installed VirtualBox (eg C : \ Program Files \ Sun \ xVM VirtualBox) and enter the following command:
(For a VM called "Windows 7" screen and 1280 × 800)
VBoxManage controlvm "Windows 7" setvideomodehint "1280" "800" "24"
